Only one rod missed the 20lb mark. 2 of the rods had a 20lb+ and 4 rods had double 20lbs including me.The top rod for 23 fish was our American friend, Schuyler, and that included 2 x 20lbs+ Mark from Morecambe had the best 2 fish of 27lbs and 24lbs. At the end of the day there was always a cold beer,wine or whatever to greet you when it was hot, and when it was cold, tea.coffee,cakes and always a roaring campfire. The food was excellent, provided by a dedicated team who travelled from campsite to campsite. Lunch on the move was also excellent – proper meals followed by a wonderful siesta for horse and rider! It was perfect. Wonderful, hard and at times fast and furious riding, and then at the end of the day enough comfort and good food to set you up for the next day. And Jane was wonderful. The fishing guide you booked was great, Toby and I spent a full day floating down the river we caught about 20 trout up to 2lbs. We had a truly fabulous time. The itinerary for the trip was incredibly well thought out. The ride was spectacular, and the tour we did after the ride gave us a real insight into the culture of the beautiful country we were lucky enough to be traveling in.
Thank you for arranging a great trip to an amazing country .The riding and camping were superb with a very knowledgeable, interesting and personable guide, as were the backup team. The Bali lodge was wonderful as was the walk up the peak and watching honey collecting (not to mention eating it!). The drivers for the week were excellent, particularly Alex who I spent the most time with. Gondar and Lalibela were the right amount of time and we had good guides in both places as we did for our sightseeing in Addis.
We had a really great time in Ethiopia thank you and have come away with so many good memories of the ride, the other places we saw, and the immense kindness and generosity of spirit of the people. I think the mixture the holiday provided of activity/culture/wild life was incredible.
The trip was a great success, and on many levels. The itinerary was extremely good. We were always met as indicated exactly on time. Guide was delightful, efficient and always making things work for the guests. Ride Guides were superb, bright, educated, hugely knowledgeable. Camping sites, conditions and food excellent. The Bale is so diverse, the Sanetti Plateau unique, it was so rich, so varied and so special.

Watching the camel race, Wadi Rum-style, from the window of a 4×4 driven alongside the galloping camels was a thrilling experience. We knew we were in the right place the moment we walked out of the plane and ventured off into the bush. We saw lions after twenty minutes! The children loved the experience. Fergus wrote in his notebook every species that he saw which numbered over 250. The camp was perfect and the staff simply brilliant until the football match when they turned competitive! We had a wonderful, wonderful time and will recommend to all friends should they be heading in that direction.
I wish I could put to you as eloquently, how restorative and thoroughly stimulating our Kenyan holiday was. What an incredibly impressive young management team in Jesse, Chania and Kim at Outback Mara. How much we all adored our guide David and spotter, Kappen. I felt very emotional leaving them all. At Kizingo Louis and Mary-Jo provided unbridled enthusiasm for body boarding and entertained us morning, noon and night. Yet again another perfect trip, thank you! Two very different experiences. Both equally good. Riding at Sosian was perfect for what we wanted, they even got us on camels. Ayesha at Sosian and Jennifer at Offbeat Mara were both fantastic hosts.

“The Delger-Muron River Valley is absolutely stunning – a wide river alternating between rapids and deep pools, a wildflower laced valley floor and big high cliffs like bookmarks on either side. It’s one of the nicest places I’ve seen in Mongolia and there wasn’t a village for miles in any direction. We had the entire river to ourselves.”
“The day was far from ordinary. It started off with a bang when I landed two taimen before 11 o’clock. The first was a baby and the second was a beauty. Unlike the violence involved when a taimen takes a surface fly, when you hook a big one on a streamer it feels more like you’ve snagged a wheelbarrow full of bricks. It’s easy to initially mistake it for a snag. Next, you feel the massive head shakes in an attempt to loose the fly. Then all hell breaks loose.”
“This was my third trip to Mongolia: the scenery was spectacular, with fall colors showing in the larch forests lining the rocky hills along the way; and the fishing was the best ever. In a word, it was exceptional. Our group caught countless lenok, numerous grayling, and 23 taimen up to 55 inches in length. The biggest taimen were caught in white water rapids where the water temperature was cooler and oxygen levels higher than the surrounding water; and the gurgler was again by far and away the winning fly pattern. Five to six-inch long streamers imitating lenok also produced well, but gurglers caught everything from big taimen to average-sized (20 to 24-inch) lenok and even feisty grayling.”

“What a most extraordinary and fantastic place Nyati Beach Lodge is. It is a fisherman’s paradise. We caught King Mackeral to about 40lbs, Kingfish to 20lbs, Yellow fin Tuna to about 30lbs, Grunter to about 6lbs, Bonefish and numerous other species, plus a 350lb Bull Shark. If you are not a fisherman you can walk on deserted beaches, use a quad bike on 60 klms of beach and not see a soul!! The cuisine at Nyati is the best we have had anywhere in Africa. Crayfish, Tiger Prawns and plenty of fabulous fresh sea fish, many of which we caught ourselves. Superb fresh fruit and other sumptuous dishes.Overall 10 star. Cant wait to go again.”

I am safely back and thoroughly enjoyed my Namibian experience. The riding was awesome and so interesting. I have never been on a riding holiday before so I have nothing to compare it to and I knew that we were not going to see many animals but we saw enough and lions close by one day! The food was excellent and always produced with a smile. Andrew was a top class and very knowledgeable guide with a great wit! I absolutely loved it and for me it was an experience of a lifetime.

“Bitteroot Ranch was brilliant. Lovely family and Mel is English and she went to Milfield School. I was surprised to see the food was more grand as I thought we will be eating typicial American food. The chef is English. They have a large vegetable and fruit garden and also their own farm meats. The ranch is basic and we have our own log cabin with bathroom. It has plenty of hot water. Horses are well behaved. (Arabs and Quarters) They bred thier own and they must have about 200!! Wranglers are very responsible and we rode 6 hours every day. My daughter Tamara wants to go back there for the summer as a wrangler in 3 years time as most of them are British. Only hard hats to be worn on rides. We went to a rodeo and it was great fun. Some men go fishing with Mel’s husband Bayard. Plently of wine and beers in the evenings. The weather had been great too.”

We really enjoyed riding the Peruvian Pasos…and being gated they had the added benefit that throughout the five days of riding not one of us had any sign of soreness. Philip brought us so close to the animals, and we were just a few feet from the Big 5. I learned a lot about mounted body language while being right in front of animals. The saddles were the most comfortable trail saddles I have ever used.
“I had a wonderful time; the Fairlawns Hotel was a marvellous start, and a good day in which to relax and get used to being on holiday. Transferred to Wait a Little, met by Philip at the airport, and rode that afternoon. Horses excellent, wildlife varied and fascinating (amazing how close we could get to some of them), riding fun if a bit fast and furious at times! Thought the “two centre” idea worked well, Makalali was a lovely but different environment and all of us enjoyed the night en route at the fly camp. At Wait a Little, Gerti’s food was excellent and plentiful (better I think than at Makalali), and all worked very hard to ensure we had a good time. No serious “incidents”, although we did get a bit close to a nervous bull elephant at one point… loved galloping alongside the giraffe and zebra. Lots of good memories. Then a few days in Cape Town, sunbathing, visiting the wine region and going down to the Cape of Good Hope…So – would I recommend Wait a Little? – yes, unreservedly, but I would make sure clients understood that you needed a reasonably good level of competence and fitness to cope with the riding – Philip either walks or gallops, not much in between, and he’ll gallop for miles…. not for the faint hearted or unfit! Their attention to detail was great…luggage always in right place quickly..delicious apperitivos and wonderful lunches all waiting for us at various points during the day….mostly good local cooked food. They made a superb job of ‘assessing’ us vis-a-vis making sure we all rode horses best suited to individuals – I loved mine so much I wanted to bring her home! They were sure-footed with calm temperaments but certainly not dull. Thanks for all your help in arranging such a fun holiday.”

“We had the most wonderful holiday in Gredos ever, just divine. The whole set up is fantastically professional, Maria Elena is a real perfectionist and nothing was too much trouble. Emilio and Carmen were brilliant too. The horses were well chosen, well trained/schooled, beautifully looked after with the most supple tack.The route was so well planned and worked like clockwork, with the white van turning up with the tapas at 12 or so, then the two hour lunch, and eventually riding into most of the hotels which was such fun. All the hotels were excellent and the owners/staff extremely helpful and friendly. I was amazed at the attention to detail in the set up, we were part of an extremely well oiled and efficient outfit such as I have never experienced before. Many thanks for organising it all so well, and also not putting the price up, I imagine you must have taken a bit of a hit with the euro.”

“Everything exceeded our expectations. Ras Kutani was great and we were really well looked after. Sand Rivers is superbly located and we had a couple of mornings out on the river bank which was a great location for breakfast. The snorkelling at Kinasi was fantastic, with were coral gardens and an amazing variety of beautiful coloured fish. Mafia is a very remote but it all worked perfectly. The meet and greet service at the airport was fantastic. We can’t recommend it highly enough and the staff were charming everywhere. Thanks so much for organising such a wonderful holiday.”

“It was a magical holiday. I have never felt so well looked after by genuine people whose only concern was to ensure we were comfortable and happy. I do not think anything could have prepared me for the wonders that unfolded. To have wild elephants chewing trees no more than 2ft from your head at night and a resident hippo were unbelievable experiences! Every evening new feasts would arrive and every single dish we were served was delicious. “We had the most fantastic time both at Vintage African Safaris and at Mwambashi River Lodge. Seeing 4 Leopards, 3 large male Lions,numerous other game, catching about 40 tigerfish up to 12 pounds and 2 vundu up to 60lbs all in about 6 days says it all. The area around Mwambashi seems to be most idyllic for all animals, plainsgame and predators alike. I have been on numerous safaris over the years and for pure game viewing this will take some beating.”

“Back safe and sound from Zambia at the end of a fantastic holiday. Lodge brilliantly run by Yvonne and Mwaka and the guides. All the Lodge “activities” were well organised. I think that between us we did them all including a fantastic 14 hour safari deep into the National Park which involved having to change a tyre in front of 400 Buffalo (Guides estimate) and getting stuck in a dry river bed only to discover that a Pride of 8 lions were sleeping in the shade just a few yards from us! The fishing was good. We should have got more into the boat but we quickly learned about the difficulties of setting hooks in bony mouths. Between us I think we caught 10 tigers, the best fell to Peter Fraser, 12lb . My best was 10lb. Great sport!”
